A major change in the Immigration system allows the government to target new skilled immigrants as the labour shortage reaches an unprecedented high. Minister of Immigration Sean Fraser designates certain jobs for permanent residency. The government’s current system has an Express Entry pool using a Point system to assess immigrants to apply for permanent residency. The government did few draws because of travel restrictions and instead focussed on people already in Canada on working student visas. New draws are expected this year to tackle backlog to target specific occupations.
According to Fraser Point system does an excellent job of finding the best and the brightest. It allows flexibility to the Express Entry system without increasing the burden on Canada’s Immigration system The Liberals’ Immigration system calls for continued increases in the number of immigrants with a target of more than 400,000 arrivals this year. The Pandemic has proven they no longer need the bright and the brightest but the boots on the ground to get the work.
