Modernizing Canada’s Immigration to support economy.

February 8, 2022BY Meghana

The announcement made today by Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, as measures to improve client experience and modernize the immigration system. This modernization plan is coming at a price tag of $85 million CAD. Today’s announcement comes as a news to upgrade the current application processing system, that is mired in processing delays to manpower shortage and outdated technology being used by the IRCC.

The aim of implementing this new process is to speed up the processing time for permanent residence, temporary residency and citizenship applications. With over 60,000 pending citizenship applicants waiting for their turn to take Citizenship oath, the new process is expected to deliver the results within 4 months from the submission date. For temporary residency, the priority is to reduce the current inventory and to meet service standards for work permits for essential workers, Study Permit applications and Visitor Visa applications.

This the government is trying to achieve to hiring 500 new processing staff and will continue to hire more down the lane, and implement new technology and online options. More importantly, the policy also laying emphasis in addressing systemic barriers to ensure programs and policies are fair and equitable and culturally sensitive, that has not been addressed for quite sometime.
